Abstract
From 1989-90 to 1993-94, the total Federal and provincial correctional caseload has increased steadily from 117,571 to 154,106. The remaining four jurisdictions reported decreases. Admissions for remand and temporary detention increased by 42 percent since 1989-90. Provincial inmates accounted for 59 percent of the average of 32,803 inmates during 1993-94. Persons starting a term of supervised probation increased by 34 percent since 1989-90.
