This directory lists services available to victims of crime in Canada.
Abstract
In recent years, the Canadian criminal justice system has increased its emphasis on crime victims and created victim services programs to meet their needs. Increased recognition of the emotional stress, physical injury, and strain associated with victimization has led to the implementation of programs such as police-based victim-witness service units. More comprehensive services have become available to victims of spousal assault, sexual assault, and child abuse. This national inventory of victim services should be helpful not only in identifying services in different areas of Canada, but also in facilitating the development of a national communication network between similar types of agencies. Services are listed by province/territory and city. Each entry includes an agency name, address, telephone number, and brief description of services offered.
