The primary source of data for this digest is the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting System. The first section of the report displays the Missouri Crime Clock, which provides an overview of the frequency of occurrence of Crime Index offenses committed in the State in relation to time. The eight offenses that compose the Crime Index are murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The second section provides data related to Crime Index offenses committed in the State. Its purpose is to provide a comparison of the various types of Crime Index offenses, so that their relative importance can be assessed. The third section presents data on arrest activity and clearance rates associated with Crime Index offenses, as well as arrest activity associated with other classes of criminal offenses. The fourth section provides a series of data and analysis related to each of the eight types of Crime Index offenses. Data are provided on crime activity, clearance rates, crime patterns, and arrest activity associated with each of these offenses. The last section provides summary data on Crime Index offenses and arrest activity for specific law enforcement jurisdictions in the State. The 1993 Crime Index Offenses showed a 1.4-percent increase from 1992, with violent offenses increasing 2.2 percent and property offenses increasing 1.2 percent.
