This volume presents 470 statistical tables providing State-by-State statistics and rankings for offenses, arrests of adults and juveniles, prison and jail populations and expenditures, alcohol and other drug treatment and prevention programs, police employment, courts, and rural and urban crime comparisons.
Abstract
Each page presents two columns, one presenting the data in alphabetical order and the other presenting data in rank order. The arrest and offense statistics provide details for specific offenses in 1993, trends since 1989 and 1992, the geographic locations of crime, crimes involving firearms or other weapons, and differences between urban and rural areas. Data are also presented on State and local criminal justice expenditures, pay rates and payrolls for particular categories of criminal justice personnel, the numbers of civilian and sworn law enforcement personnel, and criminal court caseloads. The statistics also cover capital punishment, life sentences, probation, parole, offender entries and releases from corrections, shock incarceration programs, and the use of wiretaps.
