Abstract
Public records include all records and documents belonging to government entities in the Virgin Islands. Citizens have the right to examine and copy public records, unless regulatory provisions stipulate that certain records be kept secret or confidential. Access to public records must be carefully supervised. Certain public records must be kept confidential, including personal information about public school students, hospital records, trade secrets, attorney records, investigative reports of peace officers, criminal identification files of the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department, confidential personnel records, and information about elderly and disabled adult abuse.
