Abstract
Legislative provisions on the erasure of criminal history records pertain to criminal charges and proceedings, retention and control of criminal history records, civil discovery, and the disclosure of erased records. Legislative provisions on the security and privacy of criminal records encompass court records and information compiled by criminal justice agencies to identify criminal offenders, criminal record maintenance and storage, public access to and inspection of criminal records, and challenges to criminal record completeness and accuracy. Legislation also defines responsibilities of the State Police Bureau of Identification with respect to criminal investigation, fingerprinting, and recordkeeping. In addition, Connecticut has legislative provisions that focus on access to and security of personal data maintained in automated information systems.
