This report describes the collaboration between the Minnesota Office of Drug Policy and Violence Prevention and the Chemical Abuse and Violence Prevention Council in terms of preventing violence and drug abuse through identifying causes, recommending policies, and coordinating Statewide and community strategies.
Abstract
The report notes trends in chemical abuse in the State, including the continuing abuse of cocaine, the rising use of marijuana, and a decline in the overall percentage of traffic fatalities attributed to substance use. In Minnesota, violent crime has continued to increase, as has physical and sexual abuse among children and adolescents. Strategies to build safer communities outlined here include creating effective prevention plans, using prevention as an active and assertive means of creating conditions that promote well-being, making prevention goal-oriented and realistic, and measuring the effectiveness of prevention efforts against specified goals. The report also highlights the 1994 activities of these two offices. 3 appendixes
