This report highlights the activities of the Huron County (Ohio) juvenile court during 1994.
Abstract
During the reporting period, the Juvenile Court handled a heavy workload, that increased 180 percent between 1982 and 1994. In 1994, there were 20 percent more hearings and trials on delinquency and unruliness matters than in 1993, while the number of first offenders dealt with informally increased by 60 percent. During the same period, the Court's financial resources continued to decline. Compared to figures from 1991, the number of youths found delinquent for felony offenses increased by 57 percent. The use of out-of-home placements has resulted in some overall improvements in dealing with institutional placements, but the Court needs to work more closely with the county Department of Human Services to make the program more efficient. Huron County and five neighboring counties are applying to the State for the construction of a regional rehabilitation facility in the area. 14 tables
