The California Crime Index offenses are homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft. During 1994 the number of reported offenses decreased 7.2 percent compared with 1993. Violent crime decreased 6.7 percent, and property crime decreased 7.4 percent. The number of homicides reported for 1994 decreased 13.3 percent compared to the same period in 1993, and reported forcible rapes decreased 6.1 percent. Reported robberies decreased 13.4 percent; aggravated assaults decreased 1.6 percent; burglary decreased 8.8 percent; and motor vehicle theft decreased 5.8 percent. The tables for selected jurisdictions show the number of Index offenses reported for all 67 jurisdictions as well as for each jurisdiction for both 1993 and 1994. The FBI Crime Index total and the California Crime Index total are shown both for all jurisdictions and each jurisdiction. In addition to the Index offenses, the same data categories are shown for larceny-theft and arson.
