The U.S. Department of Education has responded to some of the questions that pertain to confusion about provisions of the act and possible technical errors, information dissemination, penalties if an institution fails to comply with the regulations, hate crimes, the omission of theft from the regulations, what constitutes an appropriate definition of campus security authorities, and crime reporting standards. Questions also deal with warning of violent situations, campus security policies on reporting crimes to campus police, sexual assault, schools with multiple campuses, disciplinary records for student alcohol consumption, whether class rosters and other educational records of students should be shared with campus law enforcement officials, data partitioning, annual campus security reports, and victim reporting.
