This report describes changes in the inmate population supervised by the Illinois Department of Corrections during the first quarter of 1995.
Abstract
There was a total of 406 inmates added to the adult population of the prison system during the quarter. Long-term population projections estimate an average of an additional 3,000 inmates added to the system each year until the year 2000. These population estimates are based on current criminal sanctions; any increase in sentencing will have an additional upward impact on these projections. The statistics presented here deal with adult and juvenile facilities and relate to issues such as distribution of residents in each facility by allocated floor space; number of inmates in single-, double-, and multi-celled facilities; ratio of security guards to residents; projected prison populations; present capacity levels in each facility; and classification of residents.
