Abstract
The purpose of this guide is to provide information about the provisions of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which received the Royal Assent on November 3, 1994. The information is presented in factual form, without argumentation or comment. Contact persons are included for those desiring more detailed information. Although some of the provisions of the Act extend to Scotland and/or Northern Ireland, as well as to England and Wales, others apply only to Scotland and Northern Ireland. This guide relates only to England and Wales. The guide provides the likely dates for implementation of the various provisions of the Act. Subjects covered by the Act include young offenders, bail, evidence and court procedure, police powers, public order, prevention of terrorism, obscenity and video recordings, prisons, sexual offenses, new offenses, parole, extradition, crime prevention, serious fraud, copyright enforcement, and security costs at political party conferences.
