The Ohio Governor's Select Committee on Corrections assessed the state of corrections in the State and made recommendations for improvement in a report to the Governor in January 1994; this report updates the status of actions taken by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction on those recommendations.
Abstract
The status report is presented in the form of a chart. One column lists the recommendation's identification number, as it is entered in the Department's Systems Approach to Corrections in Ohio data bank for tracking. Another column presents the Governor's Select Committee's recommendation that bears the coded number. Another column, labeled "Response Initiatives," summarizes what the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has done in response to the recommendation. The final column shows the "status" of the response's implementation. The terms used to describe status are "proposed," "concluded," "initiated," or "deleted." The recommendations are presented under eight categories of interest or action: security and supervision, inmate services, inmate programming, human resources, parole and community services, communication and education, fiscal/audits, and committees status. An illustrative figure shows that the total number of responses to recommendations have been 120; 64 have been initiated, 45 concluded, 10 proposed, and 1 deleted.
