This document contains the first addendum to the resource guide, Peacing It Together: A Violence Prevention Resource for Illinois Schools, that was published and distributed to every school principal, district office, and regional education office in the State in 1994.
Abstract
The original resource guide contained Illinois statistics on violence and youth, an overview of the role schools play in addressing violence, questions for schools to use in assessing the school-community environment, a framework for developing a comprehensive approach to violence prevention in schools, and an annotated bibliography. This addendum consists of an annotated bibliography of newly recommended violence prevention curricula and other resources, a list of Illinois-based violence prevention training resources, and corrections to the initial resource guide. The original guide grew out of the efforts of a task force that assisted the Illinois Council for the Prevention of Violence to identify and implement school-based efforts in violence prevention and life skills development, develop criteria for reviewing violence prevention curricula, review violence prevention resources for schools, and outline strategies for helping schools to implement violence prevention programs.
