The United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders sponsored a training workshop on law, women, and crime in Africa in October 1994.
Abstract
The workshop aimed to document information on the magnitude, incidence, nature, seriousness, and trends of female-perpetrated crime and female victimization in the African region, and to encourage and stimulate research and comparative studies in the fields of women, law, and crime. The report on the workshop contains country accounts on the nature, type, and patterns of female crime, and discusses international trends in the study of female criminality; the social control of women outside the criminal justice system; women as victims; UN rules and standards on the treatment of female offenders; and sex differences in the processing of criminal defendants and the treatment of female prisoners.
