This document presents data on the population of, reception into, and discharges from, Prison Service establishments in 1993, with series in many tables covering the previous decade. Information is also given about restraints and inmates who are segregated from others, and about the reconvictions of inmates following discharge from custodial sentences within 2, 4, and 5 years.
Abstract
Data are presented in the following 11 chapters: (1) The Prison Population in 1993; (2) Remand prisoners; (3) Young offenders under sentence; (4) Adult male prisoners under sentence; (5) Adult female prisoners under sentence; (6) Non-criminal prisoners; (7) Fine defaulters; (8) Life sentence prisoners; (9) Ethnicity and nationality of the prison population; (10) Reconviction of prisoners discharged from prison in 1991; and (11) Segregated inmates, restraints and special cells. There is a summary of legislation that is of relevance to the consideration of trends in the series of data for 1983-93 presented in the tables of this volume. Tables, figures
