Violence against women in Queensland, Australia, is a serious problem and requires the commitment of State, Territorial, and Federal governments to counter the causes and effects of this form of violence.
Abstract
This policy statement by the Queensland government envisions a society in which women are empowered to participate actively and equally in all forms of social, economic, and community life, unimpeded by the incidence or threat of violence in their homes, on the streets, in health or educational institutions, or in their workplaces. The policy statement covers consultation, coordination, and planning; statutory responsibilities; prevention and early intervention; crisis and support services; community education; and training, and describes future directions in these areas. It outlines guiding principles which stress the need to eliminate all forms of violence against women, the social and economic factors underlying male violence against women, and the right of women to a life free of violence.
