Tables provide statistics on the characteristics of felon new admissions and parole violators returned with a new term in California for calendar year 1994.
Abstract
During calendar year 1994, the number of California Department of Corrections felon new admissions decreased to 41,580 from 43,149 during 1993. Felon new admissions increased 136.2 percent since 1984 and 21.5 percent since 1989; it decreased 3.6 percent since 1993. The number of male felon new admissions was 37,545, and the number of female felon new admissions was 4,035. During calendar year 1994, parole violators returned with a new term decreased to 17,009; this is an increase of 326.5 percent since 1984 and 54.1 percent since 1989; it has decreased 11.2 percent since 1993. There were 15,767 male parole violators returned with new terms and 1,242 female parole violators. One table shows felon new admissions and parole violators returned with a new term for calendar years 1970 through 1994, and another table provides data on offense categories for felon new admissions for calendar years 1989 and 1994, as well as for parole violators returned with a new term. A table presents data that pertain to racial/ethnic groups for the two categories of offenders for calendar years 1989 and 1994, followed by tables on age groups for the same years. County and area of commitment are also shown for 1989 and 1994. 8 tables
