This report presents statistical data portraying trends in the inmate population of New South Wales, Australia.
Abstract
Many of the statistics are presented for the period between 1987 and 1994, although some figures date from as early as 1983. The contents of this document include figures and tables on total inmates in full-time custody, male and female inmates in full-time custody, periodic detainees, fine defaulters, and sentence inmate receptions. The statistics also cover imprisonment rate per 100,000 adult population, segregation and protection, inmate classification, escape rates, and persons under community supervision. One section provides a brief profile of the New South Wales correctional center population in terms of ethnicity, age, marital status, sentence type, and aggregate sentence.
