In addition to providing basic information about fitness and why it is important for police officers, this manual provides the structure for the FitForce program and its rationale.
Abstract
The first chapter explains the characteristics of fitness, the components of physical fitness, the major causes of death for Americans, the health-risk factors for coronary heart disease, and how fitness decreases the risk of other physical and psychological problems. The second chapter explains why fitness is important to law enforcement officers' job performance and provides an overview of the prevalence and characteristics of fitness programs for police officers. Another chapter introduces the FitForce program. It is a comprehensive fitness program for law enforcement agencies. Its objectives are to increase the physical fitness levels of officers, to improve officers' fitness lifestyle habits, and to reduce agencies' liability by ensuring officers' physical readiness to perform. Six chapters address FitForce implementation procedures, and three chapters focus on FitForce program management procedures. Appended screening and fitness assessment protocols, FitForce norms, and forms for FitForce, and a 9-item bibliography
