Abstract
The State law and statutes reviewed are common to the majority of the States. Federal and State laws that prohibit discrimination in employment address a wide range of employment issues, from hiring practices to retirement age; the first chapter discusses the organizations covered by these laws and explains illegal discriminatory hiring practices. It also considers legal guarantees of equality of employment benefits and working conditions. Resources for remedies in the case of employment discrimination are also listed. Another chapter discusses women's rights regarding a wider range of economic issues; topics include credit, bill collectors, business establishments, contracts, insurance, and public assistance programs. A chapter explains the legal parameters for receiving social security and associated programs such as supplemental security income, Medicare, and Medicaid. Other chapters focus on legal rights and remedies in the areas of education, housing, health care, domestic relations, child care, rape and other violent crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse. One chapter discusses the rights of women, veterans, spouses, and dependents. The book concludes with a directory of services and information.
