Following a brief history of undercover work, which probably had its origins in military campaigns, the author discusses factors to consider in recruiting and selecting undercover personnel. The chapter on training pertains to both private agencies and in-house security departments, and covers financial matters, gambling, drugs, and evidence marking. Steps in the undercover investigative process include establishment of a cover, the assignment, roping, entrapment and testimony, supervision and communications, and the burn. The final chapter discusses shopping investigations and surveillance.
