Detailed statistics are compiled on criminal justice, police, and corrections expenditures in 1989 by national, State, and local levels of government.
Abstract
The statistical tables include data on employment and payroll expenditures, percent distributions of direct expenditures by type of government, sworn and nonsworn police personnel, per capita expenditures, criminal justice employment per 10,000 population, direct expenditures for correctional activities, and large city and county expenditures. The data show criminal justice expenditures totaled $70,949,568 in 1989: $9,674,000 by the Federal Government, $25,268,915 by State governments, and $38,825,015 by local governments. Expenditures for police protection totaled $32,794,182: $5,307,000 by the Federal Government, $4,780,353 by State governments, and $23,671,582 by local governments. Corrections expenditures totaled $22,566,622: $1,418,000 by the Federal Government, $15,046,819 by State governments, and $7,471,245 by local governments. 20 tables
