The number of reported sexual assaults declined 12.7 percent from 1993. Forcible fondling accounted for 52 percent of all reported cases. However, 33 percent were the most serious offenses: forcible rape, forcible sodomy, or assault with an object. Ninety percent of the assaults were perpetrated by someone known to the victim; an offender was arrested in 57.5 percent of all cases. Sexual assaults occurred most often in the summer; 55 percent took place in either the victim's or offender's home. Seventy-four percent of the victims were juveniles; 4 percent had serious physical injuries. The offender's average age was 25, which was 10 years older than the average victim.
