Statistics on prison populations, committal flow, length of imprisonment, and inmate suicide are compiled for several European countries.
Abstract
Data cover prisons, demographic characteristics of prisoners, male versus female prisoners, alien prisoners, and the legal structure of the prison population. Data also reflect the total number of first committals, committal rates per 100,000 inhabitants, first committals with final sentences, average length of imprisonment, average number of prisoners, and legislative or other measures that directly influence trends in the number of prisoners (amnesty and collective pardon). Data are additionally tabulated on the number of suicides in prison, community sanctions and measures, prison sentences, and suspended sentences. References, tables, and figures
