This study examined the issue of conflict resolution, evaluated existing school programs designed to teach students nonviolent conflict resolution skills, and included a resource guide to assist teachers in finding materials and methods to reduce classroom disruption and resolve conflict.
Abstract
The study group that produced this report consisted of three classroom teachers, two guidance counselors, and one principal. The rationale section of the report discusses the extent of school violence, defines conflict and conflict resolution, describes approaches toward resolving conflict, and stresses the need to act now to implement school-based conflict resolution curricula. The second section discusses common characteristics of conflict resolution programs being used in schools across Tennessee, provides case studies to illustrate successful conflict resolution programs, and presents an annotated list of resources and a bibliography. 2 appendixes
