This book documents the growth of youth gangs in suburban and affluent neighborhoods in the U.S. and around the world.
Abstract
Using profiles of youth gang members and leaders from various countries, the author describes the magnitude of the problem, gang organization and activities, and gang intervention and prevention strategies. The photographs and narrative in this book shown how affluent American and European gangs are directly influencing each other in an unprecedented manner, including which types of gangs form and their operations. Those who confront inner-city gangs should focus on the gang prevention strategy outlined here. This three-point strategy involves teaching young children in affected communities about gangs, focusing on the deception that gangs use to recruit members, and helping at-risk youths neutralize their feelings over various external factors that make them vulnerable to gang involvement.
