This analysis focused on a year's admission cohort to a drug treatment program and the impact of the treatment on selected outcome measures.
Abstract
Pretreatment and intake data were collected in terms of demographic characteristics, employment histories, criminal histories, and drug use histories; drug use and employment variables were evaluated five times over the course of 12 months in treatment. The results showed that, after the third month in treatment, drug use among addicts decreased very little. Time in treatment was significantly related to negative urinalysis results during the first 3 months. There was no apparent relationship between pretreatment opiate use and opiate use during any evaluation time period. Evaluation of employment status over the 12 month study period showed that those who were employed at intake remained employed, while those who were unemployed at intake generally failed to find jobs. Changes in opiate use during any evaluation period had no impact on employment status. 6 figures, 4 tables, and 3 references
