This training guide presents police policies and procedures for investigating domestic assault cases in Cincinnati, based on Ohio House Bill 335 and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.
Abstract
The guidelines explains the State laws related to domestic violence, protection orders, consent agreements, interstate domestic violence, and firearms ownership by persons who have committed domestic assault. It also states that whenever available, two uniformed patrol officers will promptly respond to the scene of a domestic violence incident. Separation is the most efficient method of gathering details of the incident as well as protecting all parties from injury. Police officers must report all offenses on the offense report form. Once the reporting officer has established probable cause, the preferred course of action is to arrest and detain the primary physical aggressor until a warrant can be obtained.
