Each State is eligible to receive approximately $426,000, of which 25 percent must be allocated to law enforcement, 25 percent to prosecutors, and 25 percent to nonprofit victim services; the remaining 25 percent may be allocated at the State's discretion within the parameters set by the Act. Grants may be used to develop and enhance victim services programs, train police officers, expand the number of law enforcement and court personnel to target violent crimes against women, develop more effective policies and services, and improve communications and data collection systems. To receive the grant, States must certify that victims of domestic and sexual violence do not pay the costs of forensic medical examinations or associated court costs.
