The Symposium focused on evaluating methods of preventing recidivism in drivers convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol. The Symposium concentrated on examining methods of changing the behavior of individuals apprehended and convicted of DWI by the legal enforcement system. Participants evaluated punishment (e.g., jail), administrative procedures (e.g., license suspension), and rehabilitation (e.g., drinking driving schools, individual treatment). The Symposium also considered other techniques, and examined the current state of knowledge regarding the efficacies of these techniques as well as problems in administering recidivism prevention programs.
