Annotation
This compact disk presents information related to illicit drugs and is to be used by persons professionally concerned with this issue, as well as the general public interested in the subject.
Abstract
It responds to the mandate of the Inter-American Program of Action of Rio de Janeiro approved by the Inter-American Specialized Conference on Traffic in Narcotic Drugs convened by the Organization of American States in Rio in April 1986. This CD-ROM is the first attempt to unite the collections of materials related to illicit drugs that are in the Documentation and Information Centers affiliated with the Inter-American Drug Information System (IADIS) and in those of IADIS' technical collaborators. It consists of three common databases, each with a different type of information. The first database contains monographic, serial, and audio-visual information. The second database provides more ephemeral material, such as leaflets and press cuttings. The third database consists of reference material that includes information on institutions that work on drug-related issues. This CD-ROM also contains the full texts of the principal legal instruments that provide the regional and international legal framework for combatting the illicit production, trafficking, and unauthorized use of narcotic drugs in the Western Hemisphere.
