Abstract
This publication was published for use as a tool to enable exchanges to take place at the Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, held in Cairo, Egypt from April 29 to May 8, 1995. Entries for this edition were prepared on the basis of responses received in answer to a questionnaire distributed worldwide to some 1,000 institutes and other bodies. A copy of the questionnaire is included. More than 470 institutes covering some 70 countries are included. Developing countries that do not have criminological institutes were permitted to list other related bodies such as corrections services, forensic laboratories, and training and rehabilitation services. Directory entries include, inter alia, addresses, telephone and other important contact numbers, the primary activity of the given institute, significant projects involving the institute, contact persons, periodicals published, if any, and funding sources. Also included is a list of publications and reports available from the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute.
