Abstract
Crime control was the top priority for the department; crime in the city declined by 11.4 percent in 1993. Several new programs such as community policing have combined with the efforts of the agency's four bureaus to address the crime problem. Additional efforts focused on youth violence, gang violence, and sex offenders. Projects that will improve service in future years include a new computer-aided dispatch system, an 800 MHz citywide radio system, and construction and renovation of district police stations.
