The study was prompted by recognition that the quality and motivation of correctional personnel is important, particularly considering the ambitious correctional agenda of the Correctional Service of Canada. The belief that staff can be mobilized to meet this agenda raises research questions about the current levels of energy and enthusiasm among staff and the particular target groups that should become the focus of staff development interventions. The research will measure the overall commitment of staff to the Correctional Service of Canada and will gather information on attitudes, personality, and organizational variables. The research will inform two main areas of staff development: recruitment and training. Data collection instruments will include the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, the Job Diagnostic Survey, a special instrument to measure commitment behaviors, a supervisory rating tool, the Professional Orientation Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and several other instruments. 27 references and appended organizational commitment questionnaire
