Abstract
Developed to train correctional officers in California, the manual assumes that correctional training should be job-related, although the job of correctional officers varies by jurisdiction. Therefore, the idea of core correctional officer functions is emphasized in the context of providing a safe, secure, and humane environment for inmates. Major tasks and responsibilities of correctional officers in California are delineated, and skills needed by correctional officers are identified. The manual covers core tasks of correctional officers and contains information on new generation jails in California. Provisions of California's Administrative Code that deal with corrections are noted, and an overview of law enforcement telecommunications is provided. The manual also provides training segments on inmate treatment and care. Tables and figures
