This manual focuses on the rights of juveniles in delinquency and dependency cases and other juvenile proceedings, the rights of parents and guardians, and juvenile cases involving the appointment of a guardian ad litem.
Abstract
The manual is organized in several sections, the first of which deals with the juvenile's right to counsel and the rights of parents and guardians in delinquency and dependency cases and other juvenile proceedings. Subsequent sections provide guidelines for appointing a guardian ad litem in cases involving children, information on child maltreatment (sexual, physical, and emotional abuse and neglect), and suggestions to facilitate communication with children. The section on communication with children specifically looks at child development concepts, custody and visitation issues, and children as witnesses. Footnotes
