This article describes the investigation by Hungarian police of a traffic-related crime.
Abstract
Since the political changes of 1990, there has been no central registry of motor vehicle license plates in Hungary. As a result, the owner of a vehicle either cannot be identified, or can be found only after a prolonged records search. In addition, the police maintain a vehicle registration system that is quite outdated. This article describes the innovative methods used by a police detective to solve a traffic-related crime.
