Length
68 pages
Annotation
This guidebook for classroom teachers and child care workers presents a protocol outlining the skills necessary to respond to violent or potentially violent situations, particularly those that threaten children.
Abstract
The manual presents action plans for responding to specific situations: gunfire near the classroom, gang fights, eruption of violence when children are outside the classroom, presence of a violent adult with or without a weapon, presence of a child with a weapon in the classroom, eruption of child-to-child violence, and other incidents of personal and/or domestic violence. The guidebook discusses policies and procedures for prevention that emphasize the need to identify gang leaders, develop safety procedures, and implement policies vis-a-vis drug and alcohol use. The manual also discusses the effectiveness of home visitation as a means for preventing violence and responding to emergencies. Sample forms are enclosed, and organizational resources and materials listed.
