This report presents the 11 resolutions adopted by the Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, held in late April and early May 1995.
Abstract
The first resolution pertained to the four substantive topics addressed by the Congress, i.e., international cooperation and technical assistance for strengthening the rule of law, action against transnational and organized crime and the role of criminal law in protecting the environment, criminal justice and police systems, and crime prevention strategies related to urban crime and juvenile and violent criminality. The remaining resolutions dealt with the development of UN model instruments for promoting international cooperation and practical assistance, a possible convention against organized transnational crime, links between terrorist crimes and transnational organized crime, implementation of the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, criminal justice management, children as victims and perpetrators of crime, elimination of violence against women, and firearms regulation. The report also contains a description of the organization of work, consideration of agenda items in plenary sessions, and reports of the workshops. 1 appendix
