Guiding principles, goals, and objectives of the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) for fiscal year 1996 are articulated in this manual, and descriptions and addresses of DYS institutions and regional offices are provided.
Abstract
The mission of the DYS is to assure public safety by providing and supporting a range of effective services that hold youthful offenders accountable for their actions and give them skills and competencies they need to be crime-free. The DYS believes that each individual is unique and has the potential to change; that youth correctional staff should have the necessary resources and career development opportunities; and that open communication and a collaborative decisionmaking process should be promoted to involve individuals, families, communities, and organizations. Goals and objectives for fiscal year 1996 focus on quality assurance, leadership skills and other targeted core training for DYS staff, support for counties in their efforts to provide effective basic and treatment services to juvenile delinquents, public education about DYS services and programs, implementation of a computerized human resource inventory management system, and family involvement in children's treatment. The bulk of the manual contains information on programs and services offered by DYS institutions and regional offices.
