This handbook for crime victims in Tarrant County, Tex., informs them of various elements of community corrections, victims services, and victims' rights.
Abstract
Three sections of the booklet discuss probation in general, the standard conditions of probation, and the supplemental conditions of probation. Another section describes the purpose and procedures for victim restitution. A review of victim services provided by the Community Supervision and Corrections Department describes the Victim Impact Panel, staff training, victim-offender mediation, the work of the Victim Services Officer, and restitution information. Texas crime victims' rights as specified under the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure are listed. They include the right to protection by police while cooperating in prosecution efforts, the right to have a magistrate consider victim safety when fixing the amount of bail for the accused, the right to be informed of the schedule for court hearings and other key proceedings pertinent to the case, the right to receive information about victim compensation, and the right to be present at all public court proceedings related to the offense subject to a judge's approval.
