This article proposes a typology, derived from clinical experience, of sexual aggressors in dating relationships.
Abstract
Sexual interaction is the dominant goal for the Primary Sexual Aggressor, while the expression of aggression and hostility toward women is the dominant objective of the Primary Aggressive Aggressor. Subtypes of primary sexual aggressors are referred to here as relationship, hyposocial, and exploitative; subtypes of primary aggressive aggressors include assaultive, explosive, and diffused. The article discusses treatment issues, and emphasizes the need to assess six major problem areas, including deviant and nondeviant sexual arousal patterns, social and assertiveness skills, sexual behavior, cognitive/social functioning, anger control, and the presence of releaser factors. 1 note and 39 references
