Despite many years of therapy, a successful career, and all the outward signs of a well adjusted life, the rape survivor still felt a part of her needed to be healed. She volunteered to help others cope with rape, after seeing a segment on a local television station news program that described what the San Diego Police Department was doing to prevent acquaintance rape. She participated in a training class and had the opportunity to spend a day with a detective in the Sex Crimes Division. At the end of 30 hours of training, class members had to give a presentation on any aspect of what they had learned about acquaintance rape. The rape survivor is now part of the San Diego Police Department's volunteer speakers bureau. She makes presentations at least twice a month to a wide range of groups, and she believes the Acquaintance Rape Prevention Program of the San Diego Police Department is committed to educating the public about rape. 1 photograph and 1 illustration
