To meet the problems it will experience in the future, private security must work more closely with public law enforcement. Private security will assume many responsibilities now held by public law enforcement, because public law enforcement will focus mainly on violent crimes that cause major personal injury or death. Contract security will have a greater role in the protection of government property. Private security must also recognize the increasing technological sophistication and larger networks of even local criminal organizations. In addition, robots, electronic sensors, and surveillance devices will perform basic guard duty. Therefore, private security personnel will need to be literate in computers and technology. They must also be aware of the business, financial, and social climate in which they operate. 92 references
