The Omaha Police Department seeks to serve and protect the community and involve the community in all policing activities that directly affect the quality of community life. Accomplishments during 1993/1994 included efforts to prevent violence, reduce young people's access to drugs, apprehend fugitives, participate in a drug task force, teach the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) curriculum to 5th graders in public and private schools, and teach the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) curriculum to 7th graders in public schools. Priorities of Omaha's policing strategy are identified, as well as long-term goals and objectives. The annual report also provides information on the Omaha Crime Stoppers Program, the police-community partnership, and the police budget. In addition, data are tabulated on crimes against persons, crimes against property, traffic accidents, calls for police service, and police officers killed in the line of duty.
