Each of the papers focuses on technical, interpersonal, conceptual-management, and leadership needs in furthering violence prevention. One paper considers the epidemiology, determinants, and public health practices for potentially limiting substance abuse. The epidemiology of the drug, violence, and injury triad are presented, followed by group development of individually tailored program options and evaluations. The second paper is an analytical review of public health practices and child safety reported in the professional literature since 1937 in New York State. The review is designed to help public health practitioners review several old and new frameworks on data assessments, policy development, and assurances for the prevention of new childhood, teenage, and young adult trauma, primarily from drug abuse and violence. The third paper reviews 60 years of successes and failures in reducing childhood injury morbidity, with a view toward improving preventive practices. The fourth paper focuses on graduate school and continuing education for practitioners in policy analysis, management, and leadership in preventive health and safety.
