This is the final progress report on the Dade County Missing and Exploited Children Prevention and Education Program (Florida), which has been implemented as a model public information and education campaign to prevent children from becoming runaways, thrownaways, and exploited.
Abstract
The program has implemented proven strategies for raising public awareness, enhancing education, and fostering effective preventive action. Program messages have been disseminated throughout the County; activities have included the production and distribution of education and prevention materials, media campaigns, and community outreach. Targeted aduiences have included the community-at-large, youth and family services professionals, law enforcement, and youth and families at risk. Program messages have promoted awareness and encouraged effective intervention to prevent and reduce the occurrence of missing and sexually exploited children. The campaign has delivered messages through printed materials, media messages, public presentations and community-based advocacy. Program objectives are listed in this report, and the approaches implemented are described.
