This report on the fourth session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council's Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice focuses on recommendations for the adoption of resolutions pertinent to international efforts in crime prevention.
Abstract
The draft resolution recommended for adoption by the United Nations General Assembly focuses on the strengthening of the rule of law by reinforcing members' national machinery, promoting human resource development, undertaking joint training activities, and executing pilot and demonstration projects. One draft resolution requests the Secretary-General to further strengthen activities in developing countries and countries in transition by providing advisory services and training programs and by conducting field studies at the national level, as well as convening an intergovernmental expert group to examine recommendations for the further development and promotion of mechanisms of international cooperation. Other draft resolutions pertain to international cooperation in countering transnational economic and organized crime, firearms regulation for crime prevention and public safety, children as victims and perpetrators of crime, violence against women, urban crime, and the smuggling of illegal migrants.
