Abstract
The problem of child sexual abuse is first defined, followed by guidelines for making a sexual-abuse-prevention program work. The guidelines address working from either within or outside the school system, a flowchart for program development, and model prevention programs. Guidelines are also provided for involving parents and preparing instructors. Two sets of curricula and lesson plans are presented: one for K-6 and the developmentally disabled and one for grades 7-12. For each of the two age groupings, 5-day and 3-day curricula are provided. For the K-6 group, the 5-day curriculum addresses the following topics: "All Kinds of Touch," "Touch We Usually Like," "Touch We Don't Like or That Confuses Us," "Some Touch is a Crime/Sexual Assault," and "Saying 'No' to Touch." The 3-day curriculum for this age group focuses on touches in general, confusing or bad touch, and options for help. The lesson plan for each of the days encompasses objectives, materials needed, prerequisites, length of activity, age range, size of groups, and an outline of the presentation. The 5-day curriculum for grades 7-12 examines the problem, strangers, incest, acquaintance rape, and prevention and resources. The 3-day curriculum encompasses a problem overview, incest, and prevention skills. Optional activities and exercises are provided for each session.
